Optical drive issues in the Samsung® Q1b
Optical drive issues in the Samsung Q1b
The Samsung Q1b has proved to be one of the best PCs from Samsung. It has a 512MB SDRAM with the Windows XP Tablet PC Edition. Also, it rarely gets hot while in use. Optical drives are devices that retrieve and store data on optical discs like CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs which hold much more information than other portable media options. They are also known as DVD drive, or disc drive or Blu-ray drive. The drives are capable of playing and recording large number of disc formats. These drives use lasers to read and write data into discs.
The different issues that can come up in the software of optical drives in the Samsung Q1b are given below:
- Problem with the Operating System
- Firmware problem
- No disc recognition by the drive
Problem with the Operating System
A possible reason that causes the optical drive to act in a strange manner might be the Operating System itself. The Operating System in this computer has in-built CD writing software called IMAPI. You can turn it off manually. For this, start the file "services.msc" and search up for the IMAPI service .The Operating System problem in the optical drive will be easily solved with this procedure.
Firmware is software that is implanted in your drive in the UMPC and it is this software that actually decides how the drive should function. A faulty firmware will result in the drive not working. You can solve this issue by contacting a customer executive and ask them to update or modify the firmware. You might also flash it with another product, but that will lead to a warranty loss.
The drive in the system might not recognize discs at times. There is a simple way to check whether this issue is due to any kind of software corruptions. For this, set the optical drive as your first boot device (by making the required changes in BIOS) and boot the system from the bootable disc. You can use a live disc of any Operating System for this. If it works, then that shows that it is not a software issue and it is time for you to replace your drive (due to hardware issue).
