2014 was the year for Android based smartphone
2014 was indeed an exciting year for mobile-based technology. The latest Lollipop version of Android was also released this year. Along with the introduction of Lollipop, a whole new design standard also came to the limelight; this was called the Material Design. The year 2014 was the most successful year, particularly when it came to Android games and apps. It saw the release of Android wearable devices and also witnessed games become higher in quality with better graphics and controls.
2014 was a record breaking year for Android even though Apple may have sold more iPhones. According to the new analyst figures compiled over the past twelve months, one billion smartphones were shipped that were running on Google’s mobile Operating System, Android. This means that there was a 30 percent rise in mobile phones using Android than the previous year.
More devices run on Google based OS but Apple had gathered more of the profit margin. This means both Android and iOS had done simultaneously well since the market shares and profit are not of the same metrics.

- Though both Google Play and iOS witnessed a dramatic increase in revenue in 2014, iOS had unfortunately surpassed in overall revenue generation by 70 percent.

Apple had shipped about 192.7 million iPhones and claimed a market share of 15 percent while Windows Phone only had three percent of market share with a shipment of about 38.8 million. Android had dominated the market and Google is pleased with its dominance increasing.
Other firms are taking alternative measures to design operating systems to take away some control from Google. But it may be difficult with the rise and increase of Android’s popularity in the market.
Strategy Analytics brought the statistics and figures to the forefront and also said that India and China will help in the growth of Android in the year 2015.
